Concentration Challenge (optional):

  • To improve in concentration, we can commit to do two 15-20 minute sessions on our own each day, with preparatory prayers, twice daily for five weeks.

  • This is excellent preparation for those wishing to participate in the May 12-14 Silent Retreat at Aravaipa Canyon - details below)

Silent Away Retreat - Aravaipa Canyon Ranch

Friday May 12 – Sunday, May 14
led by Gen Kelsang Lingpur of Kadampa Meditation Center (Tucson)

A special opportunity to get away from the busyness of everyday life and become deeply acquainted with special states of mind.  This retreat will be held at Aravaipa Canyon Ranch (www.aravaiparanch.com) nestled at the foot of Brandenburg Mountain.  No prior experience of meditation is needed to attend.

During this retreat we will meditate on the nature of the mind, trying to use this opportunity to make progress in tranquil abiding, increasing our ability to concentrate on subtle objects.

For centuries, these methods have brought lasting peace, inspiration and serenity to countless people.

Accommodation   Shared room accommodation with supplied bedding.  Camping is also an option.

 

Meals     To simplify the silent retreat and cut down on costs to you, everyone is asked to bring their own food for the weekend. There is ample refrigerator space and cooking equipment.

Location/Directions Aravaipa Canyon Ranch, (just past Mammoth, AZ)

From Tucson (50-55 miles, 2 hours)
Take US Highway 77 (Oracle Road) north through Catalina, Oracle Junction, Oracle and Mammoth. At 9 miles north of Mammoth, (mile marker 124) turn right on Aravaipa Road (at Central Arizona College). Proceed 10 miles (4 paved, 6 unpaved) to a large steel-framed bridge (see photo below) at the base of Brandenburg Mountain. After crossing the bridge (see picture), immediately turn right into the entrance of Aravaipa Canyon Ranch. Proceed past the first residence on your left to the trees and creek crossing at the back of the property. Depending on the vehicle you are driving and the depth of the creek, you will be advised whether you should park or if you should ford the creek. If advised to park, a shuttle service will be available to assist you with crossing the creek. Once you have crossed the creek, follow the unpaved road to the Aravaipa Canyon Ranch residence.
